Gone with the Wind and a Bygone Era
Gone with the Wind and a Bygone Era
Fifteen years in the making, this elegant, coffee table book is based on the extraordinary experiences of Terry Lynn Crane and her late husband, Actor, Fred Crane, who appeared in the original movie as “Brent Tarleton” Fans of Gone with the Wind will rave about the newly published book by Terry Lynn Crane written in memory of her late husband, Fred Crane. Commemorating their intimate ties to the movie and many iconic symbols related to it, Fiddle Dee Dee Recipes: A Taste of “Gone With The Wind” is far more than a collection of delicious, vintage, Southern recipes from the mid to late 1800s.
Fred Crane was a cast member in the original movie, Gone with the Wind, with carte blanche to be on the set throughout the filming. Not only did he play the role of “Brent Tarleton” in the film, but he also acquired rare, behind-the-scenes knowledge that he delighted in sharing with guests at Tarleton Oaks, the bed and breakfast establishment he and Terry Lynn owned and operated. This beautiful and unique coffee table bookfeatures recipes the Cranes served their guests along with selections from their memorabilia collection formerly housed in their Gone with the Wind Hall of Stars Museum inside Tarleton Oaks. A green, velvet page marker, reminiscent of Scarlett O’Hara’s dress, which is sewn into the binding adds to its elegance.
Fiddle Dee Dee Recipes: A Taste of “Gone with the Wind” highlights information about many of the cast members as well as little known behind-the-scenes stories, scenes cut from the movie, rare autographs, movie stills, the author’s original artwork and photographs of historic items. And then there are the recipes –Prissy’s Peanut Butter Pie, Rhett’s New Orleans Pot Roast, Scarlett’s Sausage and Apples, Belle’s Best Buttery Biscuits and many, many more – all celebrating a bygone culture that continues to captivate readers today.
Crane comments, “My late husband, Fred, and I first thought of writing this book during our tenure as owners and operators of Tarleton Oaks Bed and Breakfast and the Gone with the Wind Hall of Stars Museum. It is FAR MORE than a recipe book! It took 15 years from conception to publishing and a lot of blood, sweat and tears; so, now, I affectionately refer to the book as ‘the Baby’ because of all the love and labor that went into it. I felt Fred’s spirit with me throughout its creation. While I was running errands in Danville, Kentucky, Fred even directed me, ‘Terry Lynn, you need to go to the little, antique store on Lexington Avenue.’ I didn’t need any antiques and just thought I was imagining it. Again, I heard his voice in my mind and he persisted, ‘You need to go NOW!’ It was so strong that I stopped everything and drove all the way across town. There I met the President and CEO of GWTW Partners, LLC who had been visiting some friends in the area and getting ready to head back to Georgia. At the time, I had no idea where to obtain the permissions for the book. It was miraculous!”
“It is exquisite! This book does not belong on a regular cookbook shelf. It is to be held, caressed, and admired. It is a true work of elegance.” ~ B. Pelley, Kentucky

The recipes in the book are an added bonus as are the beautiful drawings, stories and photos. It is just a fabulous book that I will cherish forever." ~ G. Moulder, Georgia
